Hi, all. As many of you are no doubt now aware, Festival Kinetik 7.0 has been cancelled. Given that we had booked a stage featuring twelve bands over the course of the festival, we feel we should issue a statement clarifying our understanding of things and expressing our feelings.

1. We had no input in or control over the decision to cancel the festival. Kinetik is and has always been the brainchild of Jean-Francois Gadoury, and control over the festival has always rested with him. We’ve seen firsthand all of the blood, sweat, and tears JF has put into making Kinetik a reality for six consecutive years, and we’d like to thank him for all of his work in bringing Kinetik to us and the rest of the world.

2. We can’t provide any details regarding the reasons for the cancellation above and beyond what JF’s written; you now know as much as we do. Questions about refunds should be directed through the channels he’s provided.

3. We learned of the cancellation of the festival at the same time as the main stage bands, just a few days ago (we, in turn, informed the bands booked to play the I Die: You Die stage). We were asked to not go public with this information until JF did in order to give him time to contact bands and begin the lengthy process of cancellation.

4. While there has been some talk by various parties about booking replacement parties or concerts, nothing concrete has yet emerged. If and when such plans coalesce, we’ll be the first to let you know.

Technicalities and rumour control out of the way, we want to say that, like so many of the bands we’ve talked to in the past couple of days, we’re absolutely devastated by this news. We’ve attended Kinetik since its first year, have DJed at it, have seen so many bands we’d never dream we’d see perform at it, and have made innumerable friends and memories through our years there. We were ecstatic at the prospect of being able to bring some of our favourite up and coming bands to the Kinetik crowd through the I Die: You Die stage. To miss the chance to see so many bands, familiar and old, to miss out on reconvening with old friends in a new city, to have this happen so close to the festival’s date…there are no two ways about it: this situation sucks. We’re sorry to be so blunt, but that’s the fact of the matter.

Like we said, if any make-up shows are put together, we’ll keep you in the loop. For our part, we’re committed to cramming twice as much fun into Terminus come June, and will be thankful for the memories we’ve made at Kinetik.

Bruce & Alex.
