Bragolin and Carrellee are fairly unique artists within the modern darkwave scene, but whose distinct styles have a strangely complimentary tenor to them. Hailing from the Netherlands, Bragolin (whose 2026 LP I Don’t Like What It Does To Me we reviewed positively) plies a melancholic but dreamy iteration of gloomy post-punk, with a delicate and emotional lilt which separates them from the hordes of Euro acts chasing Molchat Doma’s success. Carrellee on the other hand had dials in an earthy, vocally focused sound that blends electronics with the Wisconsin-based singer’s controlled power. On paper they’re fairly different, but there’s a commonality in their sincerity that makes them a surprisingly natural pairing in a live setting.

In advance of their massive 30 date co-headlining Hope tour, each artist told us about their three favourite songs by the other.

Carrellee on Bragolin:

No One Ever Speaks in This House
This song has such a brooding, hypnotic energy. I think it’s the steady tom-filled groove over that guitar hook that first pulls me in. Then that eerie vocal melody, like an ominous chant, creates this tension that feels cathartic to me. I also love the lyrics, hinting at how much can go unspoken inside a home.

Into Those Woods
This song grabs me immediately with its energy. It’s infectious and makes me feel like I could run up a mountain without tiring. The organ hook is just too catchy. It’s got Bragolin’s signature sound, which is somehow new and familiar at the same time.

Tar With Salt Foam
Listening to this song feels like a quiet, existential moment by the ocean. The foghorn, seagulls, and haunting atmosphere paint such a vivid picture that it’s impossible not to get lost in it. It’s eerie and beautiful, and I always feel like I’ve been transported somewhere else.

Bragolin on Carrellee:

Like A Ghost
The bassline and verses make me want to shoegaze and drift away in isolation. Then the catchy, airy choruses open up the whole song beautifully. It’s perfectly balanced and makes it my dream dancefloor song.

Captain
I really like that this song has such a unique build-up. It’s unlike anything I’ve heard before. That mid-song break, followed by what feels like the song simply starting over again, works incredibly well and gives it a distinctive character. And that whispery chorus just stays stuck in your head forever.

Hope
This song feels like home to me because it shares quite a few similarities with my Bragolin songwriting. The sonar-like plucks and shoegazy guitar solos are both elements I experimented with on my first album. Then there’s that mesmerizing, underwater-like main melody that keeps drawing you back into the dream. I feel very fortunate to have been asked to remix this song.
