How does community lead to the discovery of new music? How do changes in the circles we run in or means through which we communicate lead to changes in our musical diets? How do modern algorithms interrupt or aid those musical flows? These are questions probably best left to serious sociological researchers, but instead you’ve got us two chuckleheads talking about the subject on this week’s podcast. As always, you can rate and subscribe on iTunes, download directly, or listen through the widget down below.
I just wanted to tell you about something I’ve been doing lately, because there’s the algorithm and then there’s also the algorithm. Every Friday, I wake up and I am disappointed by a lot of the new releases available, yet I still hunger for something new. So, I pull up ChatGPT and tell it what I am looking for. I ask it what I have been missing out on all this time. Which bands have escaped my attention? It’s been a journey, but a good one. Sure, there’s a lot of crap to wade through, the occasional hallucination, and, of course, it recommends things I know all too well. But, I listen to the recommendations, give it feedback on what I liked and didn’t like, and usually end up with a handful of new albums in my library.
