I would really like you to take a second look at Gothik Treffen as falling the Umbrella of typical European dark festivals. The lineup this year even offers a great variety of non-typical “mainstream” darker bands. With bands such as White Lies, Vowws, Light asylum, Henric De La Cour and a variety of other noise and goth bands playing last year. Also, this year lineup has some great mainstream bands such as Neubauten and Laibach headlining a few of the main nights. The crowds are much more enthusiastic and younger than the typical crowd you find in North America. I have never experienced the feel of the festival anywhere in America. With 30 + venues, 200 bands and just a great overall city to explore.
I could add to this the many smaller festivals like Gothic Pogo, Kalabalik etc. that cater almost exclusively to the new music that’s happening in Europe now 🙂
