We’re looking at a pair of industrial records, albeit in fairly different styles on this week’s podcast. First up, it’s the 2007 reactivation of cult German act Individual Totem with their Mothfly record which broke from their hazy read on dark electro. Next, the 2019 LP by US BDSM terrorists Spit Mask, You May Feel Some Pressure is being revisited as we sit a fair distance away from the wave of new acts Spit Mask were (unfairly?) bundled in with. We’re also talking about the promising lineup for next year’s Grauzone fest and a recent Norillag show. I don’t think it’s fair to simplify WGT as just another cliché European festival. I’ve been to many festivals in the States and Canada, and none of them come close. From the EBM warm‑up party starting the festival off on Thursday to the great spread of genres across venues, the atmosphere is unique. Neubauten will probably play around midnight for the late‑night show. The east German city also provides a great setting, with older historic venues like the Moritzbastei, Agra and Felsenkeller. I’ve jumped between venues to catch different bands and have had pretty good luck. Here are the bands I saw last time.
Wulfband The Invincible Spirit Chrome Corps Mvtant Transhuman Rebirth
Rosegarden Funeral Aeon Sable Corpus Deleciti BFG Skeletan Family
Covenant Front 242 Cold Cave Adam Tristar Bragolin
Vision Video Lebanon Hanover Diary of Dreams Deine Lakaien
Forced to Mode Eisfabrik Front Line Assembly The Mission
Oh, WGT is absolutely it’s own thing, it’s not interchangeable with the likes of M’Era Luna and Amphi for sure, and has plenty of artists we’d happily see on an annual basis. That said, still not our cup of tea based on what folks tell us about their generally positive experiences.
