I live in Richmond, VA and there are still a bunch of rivetheads (mostly in their 30’s and 40’s) that still look the same and still come out to the club, and yes they will still dance to 90’s industrial rock and metal tracks. Most of them are DJs too and have bi-weekly events at the club. I don’t think it’s fair for you guys to discredit that subculture that still identifies that way just because you don’t see them a lot in your area. You can say the same thing for cybergoths. I have been to clubs in New York, Pennsylvania, LA and yeah the rivetheads are all still there, are are most likely being cranky and will eventually dance to Dark Electro too. It’s all cycling through again, and eventually coldwave and rivethead culture will have it’s day once again, even if for a short while. P.S.- you guys should upload your videos onto Youtube. I am one of the few industrial youtubers that talk about industrial and ebm music, and there is a huge void for that stuff on YT. Most of my subs are between the ages of 18-25 and they love learning about the different genres of post-industrial and hearing about the nightclub scene. The interest is there for the youngins.
I don’t know that we discredited rivethead culture (in fact I think we went out of our way to note that despite it falling out of favour in most of the world there were still pockets of it) but thanks for your perspective! What’s your youtube channel, would be interested to check it out!
i always felt that rivethead was pretty much just your metal head peeps that had found industrial.
the whole thing of camo shorts, band ts and big boots is very much a death metal guy thing, and ( at least round me ) all the guys getting into that kinda stuff where people that had been into death metal for years before hand 🙂
Here’s some trivia for you: Brute (aka Aidan) designed a custom cover for Interface Magazine. It was an incredible honor to work with/interview him.
I remember identifying as a ‘Rivethead’ with me and a few buddies of mine in high school (which was about 2004-2008). To this day, I still have a sort of soft spot for the fashion (except the haircuts). But it is definitely a type of fashion I really haven’t seen going out to a lot of ‘Industrial’ shows in Arizona, California, and Florida in the US. At least from personal experience, Rivethead culture has overall stayed in the 90’s.
